PMDC Motor and Control System Mixes it up Globally

Benchtop Mixer Solutions for Laboratory Equipment
A premier laboratory benchtop mixer manufacturer enlists Bodine Electric for improved motor and control solution for their equipment. The task was the creation of a motor with specific mechanical properties, speed regulator and support its operation all over the world in laboratories.
Design Considerations for Laboratory Mixer
The development of the new mixer placed a few important requirements:
- Make a through bore motor shaft, capable of taking an adjustable impeller shaft plus secure locking device.
- A built in encoder for precise speed feedback.
- A two voltage input, AC speed control that would work over a wide range of speeds and torque loads.
- Smooth, dependable solution for delicate laboratory settings.
The motor also needed to be durable, reliable and maintainable since lab equipment can’t just fall apart after a year.
Bodine’s Engineering Solution
Bodine's application solution is based on the popular 33A-frame PMDC motor (90-volt, SCR-rated) and our UPM series DC speed control. The result was an integrated motor and control package optimized for the system which increased both performance and reliability.
Custom Motor Features
Hollow shaft in stainless steel threaded: runs through motor protect and can lengthen the stirring shaft so that you can adjust the height of the mixing shaft to mix different amount of substances. The impeller actually screws in on a threaded collet chuck.
Integrated dual channel encoder: Neatly embedded inside the motor to provide true speed reading for digital readout devices.
Pre-formed, constant force motor brushes: Provide durable and easy brush replacement (One piece brush spring is supported by a metal alloy brush holder.)
One cord connection: Streamlined cabling by housing the power and encoder feedback in one cable.
Custom Speed Control Features
Dual voltage AC input (115/230 VAC, 50/60 Hz): Worldwide operation with a single 90 VDC motor: No need to stock multiple motors for use in different regions.
System matched performance: optimized motor control up to 25,000 rpms - brushless power for extended tool life (reduced component wear) and increased durability.
The Worldwide Laboratory Mixers Solution
Bodine combined a custom-designed PMDC motor with state-of-the art UPM speed control, to offer the world's lab mixer market a versatile, silent and energy-efficient product. The solution delivered exact speed control, minimized downtime and provided global compatibility for laboratory equipment manufacturers.Decades of experience in DC gearmotors,PMDC motors and AC motors for floorcare, industrial and medical applications have made Bodine the trusted choice of OEMs worldwide who are looking for custom-engineered motor solutions that offer more value,in less time.
